“We have 50 million people going to bed hungry at night; 17 million of those are children. Those are just unbelievable figures in the richest country in the world and they’re ones that need to be dealt with.” this was spoken Ken Kragen, who came up with the event.
On May 25th 1986 in the US, millions of Americans joined hands to form a perfect human chain from New York to L.A. The goals of this event remove divisions within society and raise money to permanently eradicate homelessness. The event raised money by help to less fortunate by enlisting millions of Americans to each pay $10 to form a line stretching across the country, it was a huge financial success by raising millions for charity.
While it was unsuccessful in removing the homeless issues within the US it just showed the power of the human spirit and how millions of people come together for a good cause. It gave the aurar of American patriotism, so much so that Ronald and Nancy Reagan joined together to help in the event.
